Kristina Tonev

Kristina Tonev is a fine art student in University of Suffolk, Ipswich. After graduating with distinctions in art and design from Suffolk New College, Tonev embarked on a journey into the conceptual art in painting and sculpture, focusing on the connection between the human body and mind.

The artist is currently an intern at the Laurence Edwards Bronze Foundry in Halesworth, Suffolk. The process of lost-wax casting in sculpture, by which a series of works re-emerges in new forms and undergoes various processes to become the same again, ties into her current study of ephemeral ideas and entropy.

Tonev continues to explore breath after losing her father to lung cancer, which fueled her initial research into the capture-escape, mortal/immortal dichotomies, which were shared through the performance art of the last breath and a collection of people's breaths in the University of Suffolk "Fragments" exhibition.

Seeing the unseen in her most recent sculpture "Breathing Skull" is on display for the first time in Dennington Village Hall in Suffolk, England, in 2023. In memory of Dennington Arts founder and good friend Rosie Mckenzie, who took her last breath in 2022.
